My Field Trip to UNC PEMBROKE

Second Semester has started as UNC Pembroke. After our return from Mexico, it was time to get ready for the second grueling semester of school. Julie asked me to come along for the ride that day, but, as the day wore on, it began to feel like one of her old teacher-parent conferences or something.
Following her around like a lost and dazed puppy, I must have looked like just exactly like what I was...a confused, amazed, and a little bewildered mom. I was always a step and a half behind her long and strong military stride, carrying her bag of just purchased books, and about 20+ years too old to be mistaken for a new student.
We went here and there..... walking all over the place. One advisor would listen to Julies spill about her 'major, and the classes needed thereof, and send up to another building half way across the campus. Then, we climbed stairs, ambled down long echo-y halls looking for room numbers above the classroom doors...... finally when we would find some one looking professor enough, he pointed his finger to yet another curve down the 'hall, and gave a number that 'for sure was where we needed to be.......... that's about how half the day went.

The other part was what saved the day. They sell 'STARBUCKS on campus! Two Latte's later, and a confusing hunt in the bookstore for all the needed text books, and cashing out at over 450.00 for text books that half of were used.... I was told to take my pick of activity while Julie changed into her camouflage uniform for a ROTC class, and interview with her instructor; SGT John Torre....................... I opted to sit at the little bistro type cafeteria and read.
Soon, I left to go have a visit with SGT John Torre. He is the main Instructor in charge of guiding Julies military career and coordination's with the University.
He made her Platoon Leader now..... Leadership is continuing for Julie......despite the full load at the University. Her SGT isn't afraid of packing it on! He believes in creating true leaders.....

So, Julie will have the extra duties (which she really doesn't need at this time) of leading the other Cadets in ROTC.
So, I took a few photos.... and thought this little update of Julies school experience might be interesting to some..... most certainly the Grandparents.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.
SGT JOHN TORRE. Julieannas ROTC Head instructor and counselor to assist her thru her Cadet training for Officer thru the Green to Gold Scholarship at UNC Pembroke.
SGT Torre heads up the physical training, the military academic program thru Pembroke. He is admittedly tough but fair. Favorite saying..."IT's TOO EASY!"...
He believes in postive thinking....

UNC Pembroke Campus. I tried to get a shot of part of the campus, which was very hard to do on a little digital camera. I actually need a macro or fish lens to create the curve to get it all in one shot...but this gives you a little idea of just a small part of the campus where Julie runs around for her academic schooling.

And, here in this little bag, lies her second semester of required text books. A whooping $453.67 bill just for the text books........? How they justify such a big price is beyond me, and to think that 1/2 of the books were used!! ~

After wandering the different buildings and halls looking for her advisor, we entered the broadcasting department that had its own TV studio .... pretty interesting for me, but Julie only had a vague interest in that, stating that she was WAY burned out on TV production from her stint in the Air Force. She is now looking for a possible degree change to Public Relations, and possible Professorship at a college in a few years.

More hunting for the right room .... where is that advisor?

Julieanna overlooking her list of things to do today, with a Starbucks near at hand..... She is in uniform to go take a test at the ROTC department. You have to show up in reg. uniform.
As we were walking around campus, she suddenly stopped, and said, "OH NO! WHERE IS MY COVER?"....
I thought she meant the lid to her open Starbucks bottle, and started looking for a bottle cap in her box of papers..... Then she said..."OH HERE IT IS.... and grabbed her "CAP" for her head.! I guess the 'hat that goes to the military uniform is called a 'COVER. (She failed to mention that as I wildly looked for a bottle cap/lid.! Well, she put on her 'COVER and commensed her walking about the campus....

I don't know if you can see that list or not, but, it was a LONG one! I don't know how she fits in all that stuff in one day....? Multi tasker!

Julie 'out of uniform..... she only had to wear it for the ROTC test.
After that test, she could look as regular as the next person on campus.

Trying to find the right advisor for her new schedule. Julie in regular clothes...
